On the occasion of the 20th edition of the Embroidery Exhibition in Valtopina, the Museum of Embroidery and Textiles is inaugurating : “APPOINTMENTS ON THIS TIME”, an international exhibition set up in the museum halls with works by twenty-five artists active on the contemporary art scene and from fifteen countries around the world.

The exhibition project is curated by Barbara Pavan

Artists:  Rufina Bazlova and Sofia Tocar (STITCHIT Collective), Manuela Bieri, Tanja Boukal, Beryl Cam, Susanna Cati, Cenzo Cocca, Loredana Galante, Anneke Klein, Alicja Kozlowska, Christelle Lacombe, Linda Lasson, Katrina Leitena, Clara Luiselli, Ilaria Margutti, Laura Mega, Lucia Bubilda Nanni, Maria Ortega Galvez, Debbie Oshrat, Anastasiia Podervianska, Francesca Rossello, Du Songyui, Beatrice Speranza, Anthony Stevens, Litli Ulfur, Melissa Zexter

Embroidery is the expressive language common to all the works in the exhibition: (…) it has nevertheless represented for centuries the only possible medium for giving voice to personal or collective instances in the absence of other means of communication as well as, not infrequently, the only possibility for shaping one’s creativity for generations of women. This elasticity still makes it suitable for an immersion in the everyday of which it investigates the domestic as much as the public dimension, transforming itself into an alternative grammar for narrating the present

Bayex, through Mary Stuart Queen of Scots, to the shawls of the mothers of the Plaza de Mayo or the arpilleras denouncing the Chilean regime, testifying how it has been transversal to all social classes, in different times and latitudes and highlighting its communicative and celebratory character, its narrative, popularizing even therapeutic function.

Anastasiia Podervianska – Artist – 2019 – 182 x 149 cm

From these premises, the Valtopina exhibition was born, which, as the title states, is an exploration of our time, its contradictions, its battles won and its defeats; a tale entrusted to needle and thread and returned to the observer through the talent of artists committed to investigating its lights and shadows, facing its challenges and reading its multiple truths. From political resistance to new balances between humans and nature, from migratory flows to propaganda, from illness to identity, from war to compulsive consumerism, embroidery becomes here, stitch by stitch, the lexicon to give voice to contemporaneity and to provide us with another point of observation of the reality that surrounds us

The exhibition enjoys the media partnership of ArteMorbida Textile Arts, an international magazine specializing in contemporary fiber art.
