The South Korean artist Gisoo Kim will be exhibiting her artworks under the title « Dream World » in the KleppArt – Rooms for Textiles and Culture at the University of Paderborn. You are cordially invited to the vernissage on August 27th, 2022 at 7 p.m.
In her work, Gisoo Kim sews and embroiders different photo motifs together to create a new composition. The fine fabric threads are not only connecting elements, they are also used to lengthen, continue or connect the structures given in the photo. The embroidery track leads the image into different levels and structures. The different embroideries can sometimes be read objectively, sometimes they appear abstract. New spatial situations are created. The visible reality of the photograph meets the artist’s imagination and the real motif of her photographs is continued in the space of fantasy.
Gisoo Kim was born in Seoul. She studied sculpture in Korea, fine art at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, as well as at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Prof. Magdalena Jetelova and Prof. Irmin Kamp, where she was also a master student.
Kim lives and works in Essen Germany
