The Fiber Art Fever ! platform
The platform presents contemporary visual artists who use textile fiber or its techniques, in a privileged way in their artwork.
Their practices are part of the various classical disciplines of art: sculpture known as soft sculpture, drawing known as thread drawing, painting known as needle painting, as well as photography, videos, performances or indoor and outdoor installations.
You will also find announcements of contemporary fiber art exhibitions (our members’ activities) and open call for competitions.
In a second step(in 2024), Fiber Art Fever! will also present exhibition spaces focused on contemporary fiber art: galleries, museums, festivals and biennials.
How does the platform work?
With cumulative indexes that facilitate the search for artists:
- By name
- By country
- By disciplines and techniques
- By type and themes
- By materials
With news:
- Grouped by country and by dates
- Individual and collective exhibitions, all mediums or centered on thread
- Events, residencies, workshops
- International or national calls for applications
The associationFiber Art Fever!
Fiber Art Fever! promotes contemporary textile art and the use of the textile or other soft medium in contemporary art. The association organizes exhibitions and participates in national or international events.
Via social networks, Fiber Art Fever! helps with promotions of its artists' events and other exhibitions of contemporary textile art, as well as anything that may be of interest to artists who use textile fiber in contemporary art.
The Civil Association Fiber Art Fever! was created at the end of 2010 by Paty Vilo.
The visual artist set up a first association of visual artists in Mexico in 2003 and iniciated “Puertas Abiertas al Arte” a movement in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. It was during this annual festival that she discovered the use of textiles in contemporary art through the artwork of Monica Leyva, a Mexican visual artist. It was love at first sight! This new artistic opened up a whole new creative horizon for her, multiple and unlimited.
Back in France, the idea of a collective for this art form, germinated in his mind for a few years. It was not until 2010 that she took the plunge and founded the civil association Fiber Art Fever! The latter evolves over time to become today a platform dedicated to this form of art.
With Fiber Art Fever! , Paty Vilo is also involved in social movements. Faced with the outbreak of violence in Mexico, she relayed in France the peaceful movement in favor of peace and justice in Mexico: "Broder pour la Paix", then in front of the attacks in France: "Broder pour Charly" in 2015 and faced up to the war in Ukraine: “One picture for Ukraine” in 2022.

FAQ
We mean by contemporary textile art: the use in contemporary art of flexible materials such as: thread, textile fiber, flexible plastics, hair, rubber, flexible metal thread, vegetable fiber, etc.
Fiber Art Fever! is interested in different practices:
- thread drawing and needle painting either contemporary embroidery, handmade or machine-made, or even computer-assisted
- tapestry or weaving
- flexible sculpture or other type of textile volume
- photography when the photographed object is a "textile" made by the artist or manufactured
- installations with textile material, thread or other flexible materials
- videos and performances when the thread or soft medium, takes on its full importance
- artworks created with the needle (handmade or machine-made) or with textile techniques such as knitting, crochet, lace, interlacing, knotting...
We are particularly interested in artists who are looking for new ways to use textile fiber or similar in a contemporary art approach. We remain open to other forms as long as the thread or similar, or even textile techniques are very present in the final work.
The artists who join the collective can work with other materials, but the use of the aforementioned materials or related techniques must be predominant in their artistic research.
We do not include:
- artworks made with paper fiber for their fragility
- crafts, design, fashion design and decorative arts. By crafts and decorative arts, we mean all creations with a utilitarian or decorative purpose for the body or the home: jewellery, lamps, clothing, etc.
- They are contemporary artists and work in a privileged way with the textile fiber or its techniques in a contemporary approach.
- They have personal, original artwork and produce on a regular basis
- They may be beginners and have no CV but have already developed a certain production and a particular style.
- They manage their space themselves and publish their news
- They put a link from their personal website to ours and communicate about their membership of the platform on social networks
- They follow us on social networks
- Registrations are individual
- A pair or a collective that creates common artworks together is entirely possible, but associations or groupings of artists as individuals are not taken into account for the moment.
- An artist who occasionally creates with one or more artists (collaboration) can present these artworks in his space.
Artists participate in the costs with a membership of €90 for 12 months and have the possibility, if necessary, to request a 50% grant
Artists who are part of an association will indicate it in their CV with a link if they wish.
