Faceted Fiber

BRIDGEPORT ART CENTER proudly announces a call for artists for Faceted Fiber, curated by Marci Rubin, that is exhibited in our distinguished 4th Floor Gallery Nov 21 2025- Jan 2 2026.

ELIGIBILITY:

Faceted Fiber showcases art involving the diverse discourse and techniques of fiber or textile based artworks. Focusing on the materials and processes as part of the artworks' significance, this exhibition emphasizes the artistic and aesthetic value of a fiber based project over its utility.

By reclaiming and celebrating textile arts in the 1970's, feminist artists challenged the established art/craft binary. These inspiring artists employed techniques and actions such as sewing, quilting, macrame, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, rug-making, and basket weaving to their work, thrusting them into the realm of fine art. Artists such as Sheila Hicks, Bisa Butler, Faith Ringold, Magdalena Abakanowicz, and Lenore Tawney paved the way for the acceptance of non-traditional artistic practices and perspectives.

Faceted Fiber is accepting applications for artworks in which the main material focus are fibers, fabrics, yarns, threads, textiles… Large works, interactive and installation based pieces are encouraged to apply.

FEES: The $27 application fee is non-refundable.
