Laura Sanchez Filomeno participates in the Linen and Artistic Fiber Festival with the Cartography exhibition at the Salle de la Mairie, Saint-Pierre-Le-Viger (76740)
Laura Sánchez Filomeno's work proceeds from a desacralization of everything that surrounds bodily residue. It is not only a matter of bringing together what has fallen from the body, its waste, which has survived the test of time, but also of regrouping them to recreate the universe of a reconstituted nature, which gives it a new sense. In his works, different concepts mingle, like a weave, demonstrating his need to explore questions that are both paradoxical and complementary, to see the two “sides of the mirror” such as that of attraction and repulsion, the sublime and the obscene, the sacred and the profane, which reflect the observation of a duality present in all his plastic research. His works find a source of inspiration in all fields of science, such as biology but also botany and geography. She is also interested in collections and the principles of classification, both in Cabinets of Curiosities, where she seeks a certain continuity between nature and art, naturalias and artificialias, as in Natural History Museums.
For the festival, the artist offers works that have a connection with Cartography. The artist draws her work from old maps, which she makes unrecognizable with stitches embroidered with hair. These hairs represent vestiges, strata, human paths and traces left by man and at the same time, Laura's work reveals the synergy of two organisms, the mineral which associates with living organisms through its roots and its rhizomatic forms to affirm the mimesis found in nature.
