“Intertwined Horizons: When Thread and Landscape Meet”
Dive into the textile universe where the horizon weaves and unweaves, revealing landscapes that transcend reality to open up to the imagination and the sensory.
« The horizon is the last refuge of the dream. » – Marcel Proust
In this exhibition, Sonia Aniceto invites us to explore the horizon as a meeting point between the real and the imaginary. The horizon line, both tangible and elusive, becomes an extension of the bodily territory and a symbol of desire and perpetual movement. The thread, a symbol of continuity and connection, is at the heart of her artistic identity, merging textile techniques and drawings to create unique works.
Sonia's textile landscapes are mirrors of fragmented realities, flirting with abstraction. The fusion of thread and paper breaks the horizon line, creating a visual imbalance and a dynamic movement where sky and earth intertwine. In her works, the landscape is treated as a pattern, recomposed through seams that add an organic and sensory dimension.
These three-dimensional works, with their rich materiality, invite a deep immersion and reveal dislocated and diluted horizons. By deconstructing and reassembling the horizon line, Sonia multiplies perspectives, opening up imaginary and dreamed spaces. Her work thus reflects a tension between memory and oblivion, the interior and the exterior, integrating climatic, geological, botanical, cultural and historical elements to offer a bodily and temporal experience.
