Sculpting fabrics, embroidering words, Dominique Torrente shakes up conventional classifications, uses the needle and the brush, interweaves text and textile, painting and embroidery. under his hands, heterogeneous materials come together: wood and canvas, ceramic and fabric, drawing and lace, screen printing and sewing. Combining dissimilar materials and different techniques, it also combines popular culture and the learned culture of art, canvases embroidered with couch stitch, and nods to Fragonard or Donald Judd. The past merges with the present in this work which is a place of crossings and crossbreeding, a large post-modern workshop.
