Transformé !

Du 29/08/2023 au 15/10/2023

Type of event: Textile exhibitions
With the participation of artists from the Fiber Art Fever collective! :
dominique torrente

In order to celebrate Rugby World Cup 2023 and the arrival of the Italian national team in our city, the Museum of Bourgoin-Jallieu will host from August 29, two works by the visual artist Dominique Torrente.

Using great humor and refinement to talk about rugby and the object of the ball, the artist gives this sport and its dialect a dimension that we perceive without really seeing it. It makes our retina play from one disturbing oval to another. What Maïe Fel underlines when she describes that “the look bounces as if it were cross passes, doubled, skipped, or screwed, the movements of the eye seeming to replay the action on the ground of color. »

Yves Sabourin, Independent Artistic Director and Arts-Plastics Inspector at the Ministry of Culture also evokes the creation of Dominique Torrente: emphasizing that "Words and sentences are used as patterns and can thus be either written or embroidered by hand or well in the machine. Despite the conceptual aspect of his artistic expression, Dominique Torrente knows how to integrate humor. When a certain frivolity, all "eighteenth-century", is detected. The artist associates the technical terms of rugby with the ball object, symbol of a virile sport par excellence, and covers this oval shape with Lyon silk in the Louis XVI style, having previously embroidered it with expressions such as "forcing the lock and “in between”. The artist transforms his reflection into the queen's jewel whose balloons replace fine pearls. »

The Queen's Jewel et Oval white hole will challenge you with their feigned simplicity and the preciousness of the materials used.
