A series of painted and embroidered lichens by Amelia Nin
"Lichens inspire me not only through the richness of their forms and colours, but also through their concept, through the metaphor that their essence conveys.
They are the result of a symbiosis.
An intimate union between two organisms of different species.
It's this magic that fascinates me.
Amelia Nin is a Uruguayan textile artist who has lived in Berlin since 2007.
She studied textile design at the University School of Design in Montevideo and developed weaving patterns for industry in Uruguay and Mexico, where she lived for five years.
This experience profoundly affected her and led her to reconsider her goals as a textile designer in 2005.
His initial interest in craftsmanship and his enthusiasm for various ancient textile techniques were rekindled. Since then, research and experimentation have become increasingly important in his artistic work.
His work is the symbolic and intuitive expression of a desire for a closer relationship with nature, a bridge between the real world and the immaterial.
His works address the relationship between the microcosm and the macrocosm, themes such as origin, our vulnerable existence in the universe, our connection with nature and our relationship with the planet.
His latest works are inspired by lichens, as old as the history of the earth and whose essence contains a metaphor: they are the result of a symbiosis, an intimate union between two organisms of different species, united for mutual benefit in their vital development.
This makes such a delicate and sensitive organism one of the strongest and most resilient in the natural world. His creations have been exhibited in Mexico, Germany, the United States, Ukraine, and Poland. His works are part of various private collections in Germany, Mexico, and Uruguay.
