A representation of the drawn vulva is embroidered in place of the monogram on the sheet.
Monograms are the symbol of the trousseau (personal linen and household linen, bourgeois symbol between the XIV and XIX th century) embroidered by young girls. Marriage representing the only perspective of life for women (outside the convent). For me the trousseau is associated with the market value of virginity, of the female body for reproduction. Through dowries the bourgeois were enriched and the kingdoms were enlarged by the unions of families.
Embroidering a vulva in place of a monogram constitutes for me the very contestation of this symbol.
