Series In your skin
It was the subject of an exhibition entitled Open neck, presented at the Hospital and then at the Maison des Dentelles d'Argentan. The residence had the idea of linking the famous Argentan lace and the bodies treated at the hospital, in a work of continual back and forth between the two places. The title "A col Ouvert" is reminiscent of the expression "À Ciel Ouvert" which means "without hiding anything", but has two other evocations: on the one hand the collars and lace trimmings, on the other the collar of the uterus, organ of birth.
For photographic work In your skin, Marie-Noëlle Deverre imagined body sculptures in metal gauze and pipe cleaner, imaginary organic ornaments, and offered to patients and caregivers at the hospital to wear them on their bodies, as freely as they wished.
“The only constraint was to put on a common outfit: a disposable hospital gown, blue or green, translucent, which more or less revealed the clothes underneath. Thus patients, caregivers and visitors found themselves in the same skin by wearing a disposable gown like a moult, and by passing on the same sculptures. Each person naturally staged themselves while performing. I observed with surprise and pleasure the gestures that escaped self-control during this slight abandonment. I tried to capture a part of this letting go. » Marie-Noelle Deverre
