Nautilus, Micro-organism I, 2020, Embroidery in natural and colored hair on silk, shell,
magnifying glass, gold leaf and bronze, 16 x 12 x 23 cm.
The series is made up of pieces made from 2012 to the present day.
From this series, which shows my interest in cabinets of curiosities and the
baroque, I work with hybrid objects, a mix between organic materials and
minerals, which give the appearance of new species, naturalias – artificialias because
the shells are covered in gold, like a new skin. Gold becomes like a
envelope, a cover that deceives and conceals the real origin of my raw material and
which gives it a new nature which is artificial, far from its origin. Inside this
work, there are miniature embroideries, which we look at through magnifying glasses and which make us
think of the complementarity between the outside and the inside, that of the intimate interior, pearly and
smooth, and rough and wild exterior. This embroidery is almost invisible and reveals the
perceptual difficulties. My work is to be observed with all the attention of the scientist
focused on its object of study.
