“Portrait with shaved square” (2018) Photography by Fabrice Gallez Dimensions: 180 cm × 110 cm
“Three years later” (2021) » Photograph by Jean Pierre Ruelle Dimensions: 180 cm × 110 cm
The art of time: every 3-4 years, I pose for a different photographer. This is a large format portrait, always in the same attitude and with the same blouse. With no adjustments. The face and body change, become wrinkled, sag, the hair changes…
The first portrait reveals a square of shaved hair: this is the departure from my work; the use of my own material for my research.
Symbolically, the shaved surface corresponds to that of a sheet of gold measuring 9 × 9 cm. Square: stable and rigorous. Hair: sensual, strong and fragile. Number 9 – scissor cut – end of a cycle and beginning of a new one. And gold – reference value – unalterable, in the face of human vulnerability…
The hairs collected are integrated into the “Biography” assembly.
