“Look at yourself” mirror series
The mirror, a reflective surface, covers a rich, complex and ambivalent symbolism. A bridge between two worlds, that of appearance and being, the mirror fascinates and disturbs.
The other is the mirror of ourselves, as Plato says. : You have not failed to notice, have you, that when we look at the eye in front of us, our face is reflected in what we call the pupil, as in a mirror; the one who looks sees his image there.
In this series the mirrors are worked with an addition of black adhesive velvet worked with a scalpel. This piece of velvet added to the mirror represents the bodice of a garment, with collar, armhole, shoulder, neckline, pleats...
