Visual Artis Arna Gna Gunnarsdottir blurs the lines between mysticism and the natural world to create works that can be seen as magical and strange, they are closely connected to the human body and its imperfections. Interested in the deconstruction and reconstruction of found materials.
Arna Gna mixes colours and fabrics to create new reality inspired by the body’s connection to mysticism and the magic found in nature. « To take apart and rebuild .. like when hurting or injured and the process of mending, ..the process interests me and I find extreme beauty in imperfection. I find it fascinating how the body and nature can mend, heal and change..if cut, broken and open.. bleed, sewn together and bruised. Fascination with the body’s strangeness, the skin, its touch, and the idea of woman, mixed with the power of nature and magic. »
Arna Gna Gunnarsdottir (1974) is an Icelandic artist living and working between Paris France and Iceland. She graduated from Icelandic Academy of Arts with a BA degree in Visual Arts in 2006 and a Diploma-degree in Art Teaching in 2007. She also pursued her studies at the Bergen Arts Academy and the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm.
