Hello, my name is Andrea but everyone calls me Cenzo.
I’m an artist and i often look into feelings that i haven’t know before. My work is an endless game of back and forth that I express with needle and thread. The tools I use to explore the world of contemporary art are simple, nonetheless meaningful: it might be a deck of cards, a thought or a thread, or both.
All my works have something that triggers them: it can be the environment, a reading, an event, people or music. Each project I carry out has its own history and research, it is a different adventure every time.
An important part of my work is the choice of the support. I will intervene on it, developing a true relationship: the support becomes my confidant, it knows all my thoughts, listens to my secrets, absorbs my feelings that I transfer into every stitch and every seam. It becomes the means by which I overcome my limits, but also those of the material itself, which is different each time: it can be an old, washed-out cloth that slept in a chest for years; a new shirt, a sheet of cardboard or the scraps and cuttings of previous works.
Every single material gives birth to a new dialogue, a new story, a new work.
The sewn work is usually divided in two important parts.
The first one: a sewn drawing, simple in its difficulty. The second part is the most important though, because is the part to be explored: the support lets itself be pricked and pierced. I draw lines and trajectories that, not only are new for me, but also for the material I’m using at that time, which it used to do a radically different work.
At the end of a journey, every experience has its own weight on our lives. Speaking for myself, at the end of the creation of a work, I know myself better. That work contains the person I was at that moment who worked that precise instant, different even from the previous minute. I play with time, with memory, with the past. However, most of all I play with future, with my sensations, I sew them and leave them available to anyone who wants to explore them.
