Maya was born in Kibbutz Barkai and grew up in Netanya, Israel, as the youngest daughter of Holocaust survivors. She graduated from Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, receiving her BFD in 1990. Having worked as a designer since then, she has shifted her focus entirely to textile art in recent years.
This series of works combines Repurposed ready-made garments and fabrics, that are cut into shapes and hand-stitched onto a raw cotton base, with a thin cotton thread.
The work was created spontaneously, without a preconceived idea of the final result, allowing the artist to express raw emotions of her inner world in an unfiltered way.
The works raise questions regarding the fragility of life, nature and existential absurdity, femininity, sexuality, desire, and longing.
