August 23, 2023 through January 7, 2024.
Artists are invited to enter 2D and 3D innovative artwork of original design that stretches the boundaries of fiber and textile techniques. The artwork must include a fiber component or textile technique. Accepted media and techniques include: Bamboo, Basketry, Bojagi, Book arts, Cotton, Crochet, Embroidery, Fusing, Hand tufting, Handmade paper, Hemp, Knitting, Knotting, Latch hooking, Macramé, Needle felting, Nuno felting, Polyester, Quilting, Rayon, Rug hooking, Sashiko, Shibori dyeing, Silk, Tapestry, Weaving, Wet felting and Wool
Kate Irvin will be the juror for Excellence In Fibers 2023. Irvin is curator and head of the costume and textiles department at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum. She oversees a collection of 30,000 fashion and textile items that range in date from 1500 BCE to the present and represent traditions and innovations across the globe.
Artists may submit up to three individual works of art as full images only. Detail images will not be accepted for this Call for Entry. Define all works in one submission listing each entry with its title followed by the information for materials, techniques, dimensions, date completed, and statement for each title. Notifications will be emailed on or before September 6. Artists who enter more than one artwork will receive two different notifications, one for the invited work, and another for the work(s) that were not invited. Juried selections will include only one artwork per artist. Prizes will be awarded for 1st $300, 2nd $250, and 3rd $200 selections.
Invited artists will be contacted by the staff at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles (California, USA) in 2023 regarding selections for the onsite exhibition, shipping dates to and from the museum, and any other requirements.
Selected artwork does not need to be available for the onsite exhibition at the
International subscribers of Fiber Art Now are eligible to enter Excellence In Fibers. International non-subscribers are also eligible to enter. A discounted entry fee is available to Fiber Art Now subscribers to use at check out. The discount code will be emailed to subscribers.
Fiber Art Now reserves the right to make final decisions on all juried submissions. Entry fees are non-refundable. The artist certifies they hold the copyright for the artwork and its image. The artist also certifies the work submitted is original and does not infringe on any existing copyright. If artwork includes an image of any person, the artist certifies that a model release has been obtained. Fiber Art Now will attribute the title of the artwork and name of the artist whenever images of the artwork are used by Fiber Art Now for print and /or digital promotion. The artist grants permission for Fiber Art Now to use the submitted images for promotion in print and /or digital media.
